Saint James
Location
Saint James is a French clothing brand known for its sailor shirts, or striped shirts (marinière), and sailor knits. The Saint James store is on the 1st floor of Kämp Galleria at Pohjoisesplanadi 33, opposite Kapteenska.
History from Normandy
Saint James’s story began in 1850, when Léon Legallais, the mayor of the village of Saint-James, founded the Moulin du Prieur spinning mill in Normandy. In 1889 the mill officially became the company Filatures de Saint-James, and the brand’s first garment was launched at the same time: the sailor sweater of Breton and Norman fishermen. Since 1950 the brand has focused on sailor knits, and today the collection also includes shirts, trousers and jackets.
Made in France
Saint James makes about 70% of its collections in France. More than a million knits and shirts are made each year in the Normandy workshops. The company received the French Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant quality label in 2012.
The brand’s range includes sailor shirts, knitwear and jackets for women, men and children.
